Mardi Himal via Poon Hill
Mardi Himal Trekking
Image result for photos mardi himal trek
The Mardi Himal Trek is an ideal choice for those of us who are looking for an ‘off the beaten path’ trekking experience in the quieter parts of the Annapurna region of Nepal. It is the lowest and perhaps the least visited of the trekking peaks in Nepal.  While trekking on this route, leading up to Mardi Himal base camp and finally the high camp, we get to appreciate the solitary trails complete with verdant forests, interesting villages, valleys, terraced farms, dazzling rivers and the extraordinary views of the Annapurna, Machhapuchre (Fishtail) and Hiunchuli mountains. Another benefit about this trekking route is that the trail makes a small circuit up to the base camp of Mardi Himal so that we don’t have to backtrack over the same terrain.
In conclusion, Mardi Himal trek is a short trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal where we stay in teahouses (lodges), try local food, appreciate the excellent hill and mountain landscape; and marvel at the panoramic views of the massive Himalayan mountains including Annapurna, Machhapuchre, Hiunchuli and Mardi Himal.
This trek offers an opportunity to escape Nepal’s busy life and venture into the deep forest and the high alpine pastures of the Annapurna ranges. Most of the trek in this journey is through the forest and wilderness of Annapurna. The trails of this trek are rarely used and most of the time hard to identify the routes.
The journey to this trek begins  from Lakeside/Pokhara by Transport to till Trek staring point).

Trek Starting Day :- DAY 01 :  Pokhara [823m/2,700ft]  Trek to Ulleri [2050 m/6725 ft]:  6-7 hrs trek
After breakfast, we drive to Naya Pul and start the trek. We pass through sub tropical valley forests, sometimes on the carved trail on the side of the cliff. After lunch, we cross the Modi Khola (river) via a suspension bridge to the village of Tikhedhunga. The Ulleri Hill with thousands of steps and boulders that continually go upward would really prove a test of our stamina. We reach Ulleri by late afternoon. Included meals:BLD

DAY 02:  Ulleri to Ghorepani [2750 m/ 9020 ft]: 5 - 6 hrs trek
We make our ascent to the Ghorepani village. The name Ghorepani in Nepali means horse-water owing to its role as an important campsite for traders before it became a trekker's stop. Ghorepani is an interesting place with small shops and stalls for selling local products and craft. The town has two parts: one in a saddle and the other a few hundred feet lower. We stop at the higher part of the Ghorepani village that offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains including Annapurna South and Nilgiri mountains. Since Ghorepani lies quite higher than our previous stop, we begin to feel the chilly weather especially in the evenings. Overnight at Ghorepani.

DAY 03:  Ghorepani - Poon Hill - Tadapani [2700m/8,860 ft]: 6 /7 hrs
Today will be a special day because we conquer Poon Hill- an icon of Annapurna region. To catch the magnificent splendor of sunrise over the Himalayas, we make an early morning climb along the steep trail to the viewpoint of Poon Hill (3200mtrs). Poon  Hill (3,210m/10,529ft) is a great viewpoint from where we will be able to enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the Mustang part and Pokhara valleys including the closest views of more than 20 highest mountains including the close-up views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The snowy peaks of the high mountains loom above and around us glowing in the morning light. After taking photos and having some coffee or tea or hot chocolate, we return back to Gorepani. Upon breakfast, we head east and climb a nearby ridge. We descend through rhododendron forest, pass by spectacular waterfalls along the way and reach Tadapani for overnight.

DAY 04:  Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170m/7120ft): 6/7 hrs trek
From Tadapani, we make a steep descent through the dense and dark forest. The route passes through the west bank of the Modi Khola. Then, we descent steeply down the village of Chuile coming over to the Kimrong Khola. Then, we continue a steep climb till to Chhomrong. Upon arrival at Chhomrong, we encounter with the mighty peak of Annapurna South, with the Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhare) facing it across the valley. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located on the lap of giant Annapurna massive. Overnight at Chhomrong.

DAY 05: Chhomrong to Ghandruk (1990m) 6/7hrs
After morning breakfast in Chhomrung say good bye to modikhola upper valley and trail leads you to Kim rung Khola. First part of the trail take through rural mountain village and directly drops you to Kim rung Khola and  trail goes directly uphill to Kim rung hill through rhododendron forest. Short break in Kim rung hill trail slightly turn to joyful Gurung village of Ghandruk. Ghandruk village decorated with Buddhist monasteries, Chorten and prayer flag. Celebrate your trekking with Gurung culture and traditions.

After Lunch (Explore the beautiful Ghandruk Village) -
Ghandrung, pronounced “ Ghandruk” by resendents, is one of the second largest Gurung villages in Nepal where the first one is “Sikesh” and Ghandruk is typical in many respects. Further more to the south of modern Ghandruk there is a beautiful traditional Gurung village ( Gairi Goun) with orderly rows of neat slate- roofed houses are clustered on the canyon wall amid a complicated network of terraces where wheat and barley are grown. I take my clients to this typical village to observe the life style of local people.also facing the beautiful mountain south Annapurna,Hiun Chuli,Fishtails & much more.

DAY 06: Ghandruk to Deurali 7/8hrs
Today will be relatively laid back compared to other days on your Nepal trip package. The trek leads slowly downhill on even paths. There's no climbing and plenty of spots along the way to lie back in the grass. You'll also come across several traditional tea houses where the cheerful local women will beckon you to come over and try their tea. You'll arrive in Pothana by late afternoon; this is the starting point for expeditions to the summit of Mount Annapurna. You'll spend the night in a basic lodge where you can have chance to meet the trekker who did Annapurna circuit trek, or you can just sit back with a mug of Masala tea and enjoy the amazing view.O/n at Tea House Lodge

DAY 07: Forest Camp To Low Camp 4/5hrs
(O/nt Altitude 3,400m/4.5 hrs approx.)  As we climb the flora has turned to classic ‘cloud forest’ with mosses and lichen, tree ferns and orchids hosted by the hardier trees.  There are natural windows in the woods that look out onto thrilling panoramas – towards Hiunchuli and the knife-sharp traverse towards Annapurna South.  Far below, to our left, we can see the Modi Khola Valley leading up into the Annapurna Sanctuary.  We reach camp for lunch; for it is wise not to go too high too fast.  Though still surrounded by forest, we have spectacular northerly views of the ever-closer ‘Fishtail’.

DAY 08: Low Camp  To High Camp 5/6hrs
(O/nt Altitude 4,100m/4 hrs approx.) Just a short, steep climb and we are out of the forest.  A ridge, now grassy and sometimes under snow, takes us up to High Camp which we shall reach at lunch time and where a second consecutive afternoon is spent acclimatising and awestruck by the views.  Annapurna South seems near enough to throw a rock at and Machhapuchare itself close enough to touch.

DAY 09:  Above High Camp 6/7hrs
(O/nt Altitude 5,000m and beyond/5 hrs approx.)  Our breakfast will be earlier than usual.  Then with packed lunch we set off to reach our objective.  Conditions being favourable, our party should reach up to 5,000m and only the crest of Mardi Himal itself separates us from the south face of Machhapuchare.  The great ice fields and blue glaciers of the Sanctuary Wall lie below.  Annapurna I, highest of all is beyond, and around us, and an arc from horizon to horizon, from Dhaulagiri to the Ganesh Himal, are a dozen or more glistening snow-bound giants.  You are standing on a spot that has been your constant aim for days now.  A place, a time, a view that is almost impossible to equal – and you’ve earned it.  Whatever our achievement, by 1300 we need to descend, returning to the welcome steaming mug, the hot food, the shelter of High Camp.

DAY 10:  High Camp To Siding Village 7/8hrs
(O/nt Altitude 1,750m/6-7hrs approx.)  After a relaxed breakfast, tired bodies make an unhurried decent through the shade of the forest and out onto terraced fields, down 1600m in all.  This is a different route down – down to the upper Mardi Khola, the torrent that has been the ice and snow of the Mardi Himal.  Although remote and still away from all the much-used ‘Tea-house’ trekking routes, our expedition now takes on the mood of the arm valley and the friendly villages.  Here we make our way along the banks of the Mardi Khola from the hill-side village of Siding, down through the lovely fields, past the simple farms and over the interesting bridges.  There is no doubting this is indeed idyllic Nepali countryside.

DAY 11: Sidding to Lwong(1460m) 6/7hrs of walk
Breakfast at sidding walk towards Lwong which is gradual up and some where flat too. On your way to Lwong you reach a place called Ghalel, you can have your lunch at there. Ghalel is the a small traditional villages with some small restaurants and homestay. After lunch again start up walking towards Lwong. Lwong is also a traditional old village. There is tea garden and ACAP office with some homestay for you to stay overnight. At the night time at your homestay the mother group will welcome you by singing and dancing in some folk songs.

DAY 12: Lwong to  Astam(1530m) 5 /6hrs of walk
Early morning walk to tea garden to see the panaromic view of green tea garden and also the view of mountains. After that come back to Lwong for the breakfast and walk towards the Astam. You will reach astam until your lunch time. So have your lunch at Beautiful Astam Village. From this place you can view many of the peaks like Annapurna Range, Mt.Fishtail, Lamjung Himal. Stay overnight at there.

( Trek Ending Day ) DAY 13: Astam to Melbot ( 2/ 3hrs Walk) to Pokhara(827m)45 mintues of drive
Early Morning view the most amazing sunrise at Astam Village and have your breakfast at the homestay. Walk towards the Melbot where the company's Vechicle will be waiting for you to drop upto Pokhara. On the way back to pokhara you will be crossing Seti river so you can see the Seti River. After you reach Pokhara you can visit many places. As Pokhara is second tourist area there are numerous places where you can enjoy your moment. The day in kathmandu either will be for leisure to rest or for perhaps some shopping before further trek to Everest Region or explore any sights we missed during our first day in Kathmandu.
