Kanchenjunga Expedition

Mt. Kanchenjunga Expedition -

Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world with its majestic height-8,586m. is mystery in itself. There are different versions of different scholars on its name. It is said that it is derived from Sanskrit word 'Kancan Jangha' meaning "golden thigh". Majority of the people believe that its name is derived from Tibetan language 'Kang-chen-dzo-nga' which is pronounced more or less as Kanchenjunga. It is also claimed that its name is derived from a local Sikkim god when he sit at the peak as if like riding a white lion. The name remains as enigma. Home of more than 250 species of birds and wildlife, and a high mountain lakes in Olangchunggola, the Kanchanjunga area has some of the stunning scenery. Ten species among the nation's 20 indigenous gymnosperms and 15 among Nepal's endemic flowering plants are available here. The region also boasts of 30 varieties of rhododendron and 69 varieties of orchids.
